Kisii county Deputy governor Joash Maangi has said that the construction of Daraja mbili market into a modern day market is set to kick off in the next three month.
This was to ease the operation of the business operators in the market. Speaking at his office when he hosted the officers in charge of the construction of the market, Maangi said that the construction of the modern market was one of the promises they made to the people of Kisii during the campaigns and that they are determined to see that they keep their promise t the people of Kisii.
He said that the construction of the market that that is the second largest market in western Kenya will help many people who practice food production to get where they can sell their produce.
“It is a huge market for people because we take our fresh produce there and our neighbors get their fresh produce from here or western and so we do not want our farmers to lose because of a bad market and our desire to modernize Daraja mbili is in good faith and we want our people not to only have an outlet but to also buy,” said Maangi.
He said that the national government has given money for the construction of the market but it is not enough and the county government shall make an addition to it.
