Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Wilson Aruasa has said that the construction of a new multi-billion referral hospital in Eldoret will commence next year.

Dr Aruasa says the project will cost $563 million. 

"200 acres of land have been set aside for the project near Eldoret’s GK Prison. The project is set to begin in January, " he said. 

Speaking during the opening of MTRH Rafiki Center of Excellence in Adolescent Health on Tuesday, Dr Aruasa said once completed, the hospital will help decongest the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital that caters for patients in Western region, North Rift and neighbouring countries.

"In the 1st phase inpatients will have 2,000 beds while the 2nd Phase will see an additional 2,000 inpatient bed capacity constructed," he added. 

He reiterated that the new referral hospital is expected to be among the largest in East and Central Africa.

"The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital will later on be handed over to the county government of Uasin Gishu once the new one is completed," he added.
