The construction of Sombogo Tea Factory is set to start before the end of the year, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has said.
According to Ongwae, the long awaited tea plant would start its foundation within the first quarter of this financial year 2015/2016, which is starting this June.
The factory, which was proposed over a decade ago during Mwai Kibaki's tenure, has been discussed in several occasions, and most politicians have been using the construction stalemate to their advantage by wooing voters as they get to power in the constituency.
Ongwae assured residents of Kitutu Chache North on Friday that the tea factory is set to start its first construction phase this financial year, as plans have been put in place and a sizable amount of money will be allocated to fast-track the project in order to benefit the tea farmers from Sombogo sub-county.
Ongwae was in Sombogo area giving his last respect to the Kitutu Chache North Member of Parliament, Jimmy Angwenyi's personal assistant Crisantous Mekenye, and pledged to strengthen his working relationship with the area MP for the common gain of the area residents.
On the same function, the area Member of Parliament Nuru Angwenyi reiterated the need for Kisii leaders to work together and boost the economy of the county as a way of creating employment opportunities for the county residents.
