“The fund targets to build state-of-the-art schools in Nyalenda, Manyatta, Obunga and other slums in Kisumu City,” she said.

The rehabilitation of the schools targets informal settlements in Kisumu West, Kisumu East and Kisumu Central.

"The contractors are on the ground and they have mobilised the materials for the construction of the modern schools," she said.

Ombara said that the county government will provide 30 percent tenders and opportunity to local contractors to supply materials. Kisumu city manager insisted that the manual labour for the contraction of the schools will be sourced locally.

"We are again offering opportunity for our local people to gain employment in construction works," she said.

She was speaking during the analysis of the Kibuye Market design at the City Hall in Kisumu. She said that the design for the market cost 49 million shillings separately from the 350 million allocated for the rehabilitation of the market. Ombara said that the county will start with phase one construction of the Kibuye market.
