Construction of Sh5.7 billion worth ultra-modern company was on Wednesday launched in Athi River town by Wrigley Company Limited.
Speaking at the launch, the company's East Africa General Manager Daniel Omosa said that the construction of the company would be completed by the year 2017.
Omose said that the decision of establishing the factory was as a result of rapidly increasing population in Africa alongside high demand of the company's products across markets within Africa and across the world.
He said that in completion, the company will employ 300 Kenyans directly for a start with more than 180 others engaged in distribution of its products.
Omose stated that the Wrigley's management is focused on developing the factory to a state-of-the -art technological standards to effectively compete with other major companies across Africa once operations begun.
"Products of Wrigley Company are experiencing surging demand within Africa and all over the world hence the factory's establishment to meet the demand," said Omose.
Omose argued that the company would contribute to Kenya's economic stability hence lauded leaderships of both the national and Machakos County governments for the timely approval of the project's implementation without any hitches.
He however said that bureaucracy in government and delays in approval of such ventures is a major challenge to those who wish to invest in the country.
Omose said that the company is also committed to safeguarding the environment through their various initiatives as legal requirement alongside giving back to communities as corperate social responsibilities.
He added that the company would work with all stakeholders and the community at large to ensure their objectives and all their concerns were met and addressed accordingly.
