Students who sat last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations have been urged to consult widely before choosing their careers.

Speaking to this writer on phone, Kisumu County Director of Education Sylvester Mulambe said the students who will be moving to institutions of higher learning should choose their careers wisely.

He claimed many students wait until results have been released to look for ideas only to find that it is already too late to get enough information.

“This is the time to start thinking about courses they want to pursue. Some of the students wait until it is too late, when results have been released, which does not allow them enough time to find credible information,” he said.

“They should seek proper guidance from their former teachers, parents, and policy makers before making choices. This will help them discern between fantasy courses and the reality. This is the only way they can know which courses are relevant for the job market and connect well with the county and country’s development agenda,” added the director.

Mr Mulambe further said the students should consider their passion, skills, and abilities besides the knowledge gained in schools while making the choices adding this is why it is important to start contemplating and seeking guidance early.

He challenged parents to consider polytechnics and other training institutions if their children do not make it to the universities.
