Chepkoilel Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Sammy Bor has urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to consult them before transferring teachers.
He said it is sad that some teachers are transferred only because they differed with the principals.
“We acknowledge that it is the mandate of TSC to hire, transfer and fire teachers but the TSC County officials should consult before embarking on any transfer,” he said in his office, Tuesday.
“As a union we won’t allow our teachers to be transferred unfairly since some transfers have been punitive and aimed at demoralizing teachers. We wont allow that to happen while we stay mum. I demand that TSC considers consultations with all education stakeholders before making any movements,” he added.
Bor urged Teachers Service to deploy more teachers since the current number is just a drop in the ocean.
“Some schools in my area of jurisdiction have a shortage of over 10 teachers per school with a ration of 1 teachers to over 60 pupils. They should act at speed to save the situation,” he noted.
