Energy regulator Commission in partnership with Cofek (Consumer Federation of Kenya) yesterday held a consumer dialogue in Kisumu County.
Speaking at the event Director General. Dr. Pavel Oimeke reiterated that ERC has not awarded any thermal energy generation license in the recent past and will not renew licenses of plants whose term is about to expire.
This is to ensure that cheaper sources of energy are used to save consumers from high energy bills.
Speaking to the media he added that "As a way of protecting the consumers, the Commission has continuously strived to put in place appropriate measures and regulations that ensure affordable and adequate supply of quality energy to all.
On the other hand, Cofek Secretary-General Mr. Steven Mutoro added that "If we maximize all avenues of harvesting sustainable clean energy i.e wind energy, we can generate renewable electricity in surplus to provide schools, industries, homes, and farms.
