Consumers in Kisii county have a reason to smile after experiencing a drop in tomato prices.

Traders at Daraja Mbili market which is the largest in the county, said they had been buying tomatoes on wholesale from suppliers between Sh4,000 to sh4500 per box. The price at the market by Monday were sh100 per 2Kg of tomatoes. 

"I'm glad the prices have gone down and I hope they will not shoot up in the near future," said George Lumbasi, a trader. 

Kisii region has been experiencing heavy rains in which farmers said has contributed to the fall of prices.

 "The prices depend on with the seasons. At times they rise as well as drop depending on the rainfall patterns," said Magdalene Monyenye, a farmer, and trader.
