The chairman of the Livestock Marketing Council, Dubat Amey has called upon security agencies in Garissa to contain aspirants going round the county spreading hate messages.
He said there is a likelihood of poll related violence in Garissa if hate mongers are not caught and charged.
“We have never witnessed post-election violence in Garissa and by extension Northeastern. But today there are people who want to burn this county,” he said.
Speaking on Monday in a press conference in Garissa, he threatened to name those leaders involved if the security agencies do not take action. He accused this leaders of funding local musicians to compose coded abusive Somali folk songs to incite which could lead to violence.
“We will not allow a few individuals to plunge the county into violence because of their selfish political ambitions,” he said. “Kenyans have become wiser and this time round bad leaders will not use their ill-gotten wealth to get into office,”.
He said the voting pattern has changed from clan based as from previous elections. Garissa Township being a cosmopolitan region inhabited almost by all Somali clans and other communities he said was at higher risk of violence. He asked security arms to be proactive and square out any act that could lead to violence.
