The Anti-Counterfeit Agency detectives have seized five 40-foot containers ferrying contraband goods at the Port of Mombasa.The containers with Oxford geometrical sets and various items branded Gucci, Adidas, LV, CASIO and London Distillers were reportedly imported from China on diverse dates.The discovery of the containers was made after following investigations carried out by the detectives on importers in a bid to curb tax evasion.An officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there are scrupulous traders who want to capitalise on the festive season by bringing goods into the country without paying taxes.The officer also revealed that have received threats from different persons linked to the importation of the goods."They are said to be well known and connected to commissioners but we are on top of things. Our work has become hard-hitting...we receive threats from senior commissioners after seizing the goods but we only fear God," said the detective, as quoted by The Star.Chief anti-counterfeit inspector Mombasa Branch Ibrahim Bulle, however, said that he has not received information in regard to the threats, adding that the management will not tolerate tax evaders. He further said that a major crackdown will be conducted at the Mombasa Port.
