A section of the clergy in Limuru have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts to fight graft in the country.
Speaking in Limuru, the Chairman of the Limuru Senior Clergy Forum Archbishop Gerishon Njoroge of the Wings of Life Gospel Church said graft had crippled the country’s economy for many years. He said the citizens were happy to see the president’s commitment in fighting graft.
“We ask other institutions involved in the fight against corruption to work hard and support this fight despite the odds against them. We know they are fighting the big fish, people who have taken billions from the public coffers,” said Njoroge.
He, however, asked the president to affirm his commitment in fighting graft by also naming and shaming the corrupt people in his office.
“We have heard the president time and again say that corrupt people also surround him, working closely with him. Let him name them too so we can win the war against corruption from the top-down, down-up and even sideways if possible,” added Njoroge.
Wanjiru wa Kiarie, a resident of Limuru, added that another form of corruption crippling the country was corruption on the roads where police officers receive bribes without fear.
“Please, rid of our roads these corrupt police officers too who pretend to check the vehicle licences but extort Sh 50 or Sh 100 from the drivers,” said Wanjiru.
Those named in the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) report are scheduled to appear before the commission on diverse dates as investigations into allegations levelled against them continue.
