According to Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan, who spoke to journalists at the location, the illegal business has been going on between Timboroa and Turbo.

Hasssan added: "We nabbed slightly over 100,000 litres of assorted petroleum products. I would like to give a stern warning to those who are in this business and ask our officers to keep off."

He said those involved in the business, including police officers, will face legal action once they are caught.

"We conducted an operation this morning and we were able to come to two sites and we have witnessed a business contrary to the law," said Hassan.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno criticised Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Kenya Anti- Counterfeit Agency seeing that counterfeits are on the rise in the county.

"There is a big lapse at KRA and I wonder how these lorries are cleared at Malaba," said Chemno.
