Nurses who were on contract have been ordered to resume job by the industrial court of Nakuru.
Justice Stephen Radido sitting in Nakuru ordered the workers to resume duty until a case filed by the county against the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) is heard and determined.
"A temporary injunction is hereby issued staying the strike called by the union on September 3. The nurses have also been ordered not to interfere with operations at hospitals run by the county government," said part of the order.
County secretary for Uasin Gishu Peter Lelei moved to the court after the county failed to agree with the union over workers' demands. Consequently national chairman of the union John Bii has directed the nurses to report to work until the case is heard and determined.
Other nurses who were on strike last month resumed duty except the contract nurses. The case will be heard on Thursday at the Industrial courts in Nakuru.
The union has been demanding that the county pays the workers their delayed three month salaries and already some of them have been paid. The nurses also want the county to hire them on permanent and pensionable terms but the county says plans to hire all county workers are still being worked on.
Meanwhile, the county carried out a head count for all its workers on Tuesday in a move aimed at dealing with those who fail to report to work. The county recently carried out deployment of workers to various sub counties and the exercise was aimed at ensuring the workers transferred had reported to their stations.
The exercise was carried out by the Nakuru County Public Service Board chaired by Joseph Tanui.
