Nyalenda B MCA James Were said the Dunga health facility was locked by the contractor halting operations.

Were said the health centre was locked by the contractor who is demanding Sh4.4 million from the county government.

He said the health centre is the main hospital serving locals in the area and its closure will bring misery to the people.

"The other nearest hospital is far away and most people here are poor and cannot even afford transport, I appeal to the county government to do something urgently," he said.

The MCA said the relevant authorities in the county should speed up the payments to facilitate the re-opening of the health centre.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Saturday, Were said the contractor handed over the facility to the county government before he was fully paid.

He said the county must now reciprocate the gesture by paying the contractor his pending bill.

Were said the people of Dunga should not be tossed around over the opening of the health facility.

On Friday, the county Health Director Dr Ojwang Lusi urged the locals to be patient adding that the county is sorting out the issue and services will resume soon.
