The County Government of Nakuru has directed all housing contractors and engineers to register with the county’s housing department.
County Lands, Housing and planning Executive Rachael Maina said that the directive is aimed at ensuring that only qualified and approved contractors and engineers are allowed to work and handle construction works in the county.
Speaking at her office Wednesday afternoon, Maina said that no contractor will be allowed to operate within the county without registering with the county government.
She said the move will ensure that buildings under construction in the county are handled by qualified contactors to avoid building collapse incidences.
Maina added that they will vet all contractors and engineers to ensure that they have the necessary qualifications and that they have been approved by the relevant professional bodies.
“We have directed all contractors and engineers who are handling or intending to handle construction projects in the county to register with us so that we can eliminate rogue and quark contractors and engineers from the county,” said Maina.
“The county government will not allow people who are not qualified to supervise projects in the county. Before they can be allowed to operate in the county they must b registered and approved with the relevant professional bodies and subsequently get a clearance from our side,” added Maina.
Last week, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua warned county officials against approving such constructions saying that they will be punished.
