Commercial building contractors in Kisii County have been urged to construct buildings that facilitate easy access to Persons with Disability (PWD).
National Construction Authority coordinator in Nyanza region Francis Oyugi said most buildings in Kisii town are yet to comply with the disability act requiring commercial buildings to have special access points for PWD.
“We will from now act tough especially on those contractors who will not heed to the needs of underprivileged. We want Kisii to stand out as one of the few counties that have complied with the Disability Act,” Oyugi said.
He said it is important for the buildings to have mobility aids, as without them it is difficult for PWD to get access to most buildings in the region.
Oyugi called also on private developers to comply with the directive.
