As news of Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery begins to sink in, Kenyans have been treated to contradicting information over the death.
Earlier reports from the government revealed that the CS had gone to Karen Hospital at 3pm.
This was in a statement sent to newsrooms by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua and reported by the Standard.
However, President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a condolence message saying he was with the CS in a meeting at 9.30pm.
"I have personally lost a friend. We spent the entire day yesterday (Friday) praying for the peace of our nation. We held discussions with the CS as late as 9.30pm. Nkaissery was one of the best in my government," Uhuru said.
The latest reports from the family say that Nkaissery had diner at home before taking his routine daily exercises.
These reports indicate that he collapsed in the home and was ruched to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, the earlier statement from the government said he had gone for a medical check up and was receiving treatment when he died.
"Gen. Nkaissery passed on at Karen Hospital in Nairobi a few hours after being admitted for a check-up," said the statement by Kinyua.
