Justice Joseph Onguto collapsed and died on Thursday evening at the Parklands sports club in Nairobi.
Before his sudden demise, the High Court Judge presided over several controversial rulings.
Here are some of the rulings made by the late judge:
1. Ruling on title deeds issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the coastal people. Judge Onguto will be remembered for his controversial decision that the title deeds awarded to costal people by President Kenyatta were not genuine.
In September 2017, Justice Onguto ruled that the head of state had been issuing title deeds without following the due process.
2. Justice Onguto awarded State House digital communications director Dennis Itumbi sh5 million after illegal detention and arrest for allegedly hacking the ICC websites in 2012.
3. The Nakumatt case. In this matter, Justice Onguto ruled that Nakumatt had failed to provide enough evidence to achieve the recovery as intended by the law after the supermarket closed shop in some areas.
