It has now emerged that the Dubai based Al Ghurair firm might print ballot papers for the repeat presidential elections.
Early this week, NASA leaders had said that IEBC should sort for another firm to print the papers. The opposition had alleged the firm has close ties to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
New details indicate that IEBC signed a two-year contract with the firm which means it remains the primary provider of ballot papers in case of any by-elections. T
"This agreement is valid for two years, so we will be printing all the ballot papers that are required for the by-elections, too. "We have had this contract since 2014. The contract that we have signed is a framework contract that will (last) another two years so we will be printing and supply for other by-elections scheduled in the next two years," Mr Lakshmanan Ganapathy, Al Ghurair General Manager clarified in July.
The repeat elections will be conducted on October 17 pitting Jubilee’s Uhuru Kenyatta against NASA’s Raila Odinga.
If the contract is withheld, a potential crisis might arise considering NASA’s discomfort with the firm.
