Joho said he would be the candidate from the larger coast region and called on residents in coast to support his bid.

However, Makau Mutua said Joho had good scale in trying out the presidency due to his political popularity but he was not ready to be the country's number one (president) or number two (deputy president).

"I don’t downplay Governor Joho’s importance I think he has some political scale but I don’t think he is ready to be number one or two," said Mutua who unsuccessfully contested to be the country's Chief Justice after the retirement of Dr Willy Mutunga.

In the event he secures ODM party ticket and appears on the ballot, Joho would be contesting against Deputy President William Ruto and other candidates.

His critics such as Nyali MP Mohammed Ali however, told him off, saying he could never be Kenya's president.
