Athi River Deputy County Commissioner, Kodeck Makori, has advised women and youth from the sub-county to convert their groups into companies so as to ease their chances of benefiting from tenders.

Addressing a group of women and youth at his offices in Mavoko, Machakos County on Tuesday, Makori said there were a lot of tendering opportunities in both the county and national governments which had not been exploited by the groups because they lacked registered companies.

"I advise women and youth in Athi River who are members of various groups within the region to convert them into companies so as to benefit from tenders from both the county and national governments," said Makori.

Makori said the companies would ensure the groups qualify for the 30 per cent tendering opportunity in the government as provided for in the constitution.

He said the groups can then use public funds such as Uwezo, Women and Youth Enterprise Development Funds as seed capital to supply the governments with various goods or services of their choice.

"The county governments, Machakos included, have been given the mandate to implement various devolved functions including infrastructure, water, health, agriculture among others. There are various opportunities for youth and women to exploit through engaging in tendering processes," said Makori.

Makori said the youth and women from Athi River should visit the county and national offices in the region to check on opportunities available for their engagement.
