Bondeni police boss Pascal Kiamba has appealed to are residents to collaborate with the security officers in combating crime.
Kiamba's plea follows complaints from residents over the increase in criminal gangs.
He spoke Friday at Bondeni Primary School Hall during a community forum on prevention of crime in urban areas, the OCS said crime can be eradicated in society if residents are willing to work together with the police.
"My appeal to you is to make police officers your friends by reporting to them all the crime gangs in the community, and when we do this, I am sure we shall combat crime in Bondeni," said the officer.
He assured residents that security officers from Bondeni Police station will enhance patrol, although he noted the challenge of vehicles, saying the station has only one vehicle which has to patrol from one area to another.
According to the OCS, the patrol cannot be perfect with the challenges of mechanisms, adding that already, the number of residents overwhelms the number of police officers.
"I have to admit we have challenges of vehicles since the one we have at Bondeni has to patrol from Free Area to Kaptembwa, and this means it cannot be everywhere and thus why I call upon each and everyone in society to assist us when it comes to alarming whenever there is an issue," he added.
On the issue of drugs and substance abuse that was raised as a concern by the residents, the OCS challenged the community to report any person involved so that action can be taken.
The forum was also attended by area MCA as well as administrators including chiefs and village elders.
