According to reports, Kiambu politician William Mwangi was killed after being shot in his car in Limuru, on Saturday after leaving Club U-Turn.

Edward Manjulu, the police officer accused of shooting Mwangi is believed to have crossed paths with the politician and his colleagues after they had finished watching a football match.

“The problem started when the gentleman demanded to drink a bottle of beer but we asked him to pay for it. He asked us if we knew who he was and told him Kenya is a free country guarded by law. We didn’t know he was an officer. I drove off but I was called by one of our friends who told me Mwangi has been shot dead. I drove back," Mwangi's friend said.

According to Mwenda Itheiba, DCI in charge of Limuru, the officer is currently in police custody.

The police officer accused of killing politician William Mwangi was brought before court on Monday, however he refused to take a plea.

During the court  proceedings the prosecution asked magistrate Justus Kituku for more time so that they can finish their examinations

Manjulu is said to based at the Kiambu DCI headquarters but was moved to Tigoni police station where he will be held for seven days as they wait the verdict from the court.

MCA-elect Joseph Karichu termed the incident shocking.

“We have lost a strong debater, a jovial and very active person. His death is disturbing," he said.
