A police officer was on Thursday charged before a Nakuru Court with killing his wife and five-year-old daughter.

Cosmas Biwott Kipchumba was being charged with allegedly killing 26-year-old Jane Njoki and 5-year-old Shantel Nyambura.

The officer was being accused of committing the crime on February 28 at Suswa area, Subukia, Nakuru County.

During the case hearing, the officer who was attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Nakuru camp denied the charges before Justice Maureen Odero.

Biwott was allowed to take plea after a psychiatric report presented in court revealed that he was fit to stand trial.

The accused person through lawyer Juma Nyagaka filed an application to have him released on lenient bond terms pending the next case hearing.

Lawyer Nyagaka told the court that his client was not a flight risk.

Prosecution, led by state counsel Jackson Motende did not object the accused’s bond application saying that they have completed investigations.

Justice Odero granted the application and ordered that the accused be released on a Sh500,000 bond.

The case will be heard on May 23, 2018.
