Kiambu County senator Kimani Wamatangi has said that opposition leaders have sensed defeat in the 2017 general election and are using the removal of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners as an excuse.
Wamatangi said that Cord has developed cold feet few months to the 2017 general elections.
The senator speaking on Monday said that the calls by the opposition to have IEBC disbanded are led by malice.
“Opposition leaders have sensed defeat in the 2017 general elections and only want to create anxiety and confusion through their calls to disband IEBC,” said Wamatangi on phone.
The senator accused the opposition of hypocrisy saying that they only attack the electoral commission when things are not right for them.
“The other day we had Cord leaders led by Raila Odinga hip praises towards IEBC during the Wetangula case, right now they the same opposition leaders want IEBC commissioner sent home,” he said.
Wamatangi asked opposition to stop bringing their personal issues and interests on matters of IEBC.
On Sunday IEBC chairman Isaac Hassan said the commission will not be intimidated by politicians. The IEBC chair further dismissed claims that the commission was being influenced by external forces.
Hassan warned that political interference could hamper its preparations for the 2017 general elections.
