According to the coalition Management Committee co-chairpersons Johnson Muthama and James Orengo, Cord has already set a strong candidate and a formidable line-up to face Jubilee in one of the hottest polls expected.

Speaking on Friday at a press conference in Kisumu, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama said the coalition has a team that will remove President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government from power.

“Do you think we can be sitting pretty 11 months to elections without a presidential candidate? We already have one but we are not unveiling him yet to keep our rivals guessing until the last meeting,” Muthama was quoted by Daily Nation.

The two said they have been holding a series of strategic meetings with Ford Kenya’s Eseli Simiyu to strategise on coalition matters to ensure the opposition clinch power when 2017 comes.

In the recent times, Cord has been seen as torn between managing the expectations of its supporters and warding off similar pressure from its rival Jubilee Party.

The supporters are increasingly frustrated by the slow pace it is taking the trio of ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka, and Ford-Kenya's Moses Wetang’ula to settle on whom among them will fly the coalition’s flag in the next General Election.
