The opposition said their peaceful protests turned chaotic after Nkaissery ordered the police to use force on them.

In a statement delivered by Junet Mohammed, ODM leadership accused Nkaissery of using retrogressive mechanisms to quell peaceful protests that are constitutionally recognised. Junet said the actions by the police to use teargas and water as barbaric ways that have no place in current leadership.

In further explanations into the incident, the ODM director of elections stated that they had already acquired clearance from the High Court a week earlier before the Monday protests only for the police to lob teargas on their followers.

On Sunday, Nkaissery had issued a statement to the opposition informing them that they had more than enough teargas and personnel to firmly deal with them. Despite the warning, Cord still went ahead with the peaceful demonstrations on Monday.
