The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has accused the ruling Jubilee government of plotting to postpone 2017 elections date.
Cord co-conveners Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, Siaya County's James Orengo and Tongaren MP Dr Eseli Simiyu claim former IEBC commissioners have been secretly meeting with Jubilee officials led by Deputy President William Ruto and ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru over the matter.
''Nobody should think of postponing the August 8, 2016 elections. Constitution should be followed to the latter,'' Muthama said, Tuesday afternoon.
Addressing the press at Capitol Hill offices Orengo said the government is also exerting pressure to the IEBC selection-panel to influence appointment of new IEBC commissioners following resignation of Issack Hassan and his team.
They have accused the IEBC secretariat of allowing to be used by Jubilee administration and demanded that the Commission stalls every activity in regards to the election preparation until new commissioners are appointed.
Cord is also demanding that it should be involved in the drafting of all regulations as envisage under the law and all current IEBC staff vetted including CEO Ezra Chiloba, to determine their suitability in handling next elections in August 8, 2017.
