In a move that could likely not sit well with members of the Opposition after the memorandum of understanding tussle with Cord flag bearer in the 2007 presidential elections Raila Odinga and Bungoma senator counterpart Moses Masika Wetangule, the Wiper Democratic Movement Leader defended his move saying that Cord was not against development.

“I will be here to welcome the President. We are not against development,” the former Vice President said.

“Uhuru’s visit will serve to actualise the people’s constitutional right to development,” Kalonzo added while addressing a gathering at Kaningo Secondary School in Mwingi North constituency.

Among the projects that President Kenyatta is set to commission is the Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui Road, which has not been completed since 2012.

Kalonzo has often been criticised by his political rivals in Ukambani region for not bringing any development to the area despite being Vice President in the Grand Coalition Government.

“I commissioned this very important road when I was Vice President back in 2012. We took the contractor to the ground and Treasury assured us that works would start in two months. It didn’t,” he stated.

The Wiper Leader also asked the president to join Cord in their push to replace commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ahead of next year's General Election.

Kalonzo urged Kenyatta to join dissatisfied Kenyans who wanted a new commission in place to prepare for free and fair elections in 2017.

“No one asked Uhuru to sack the commissioners because that is not his responsibility but he can add his voice if he cares for this country,” Kalonzo argued.
