Raila Odinga called on residence from those regions not to ignore the voter and ID registration ongoing exercise in various parts of the country. The Cord Principal told residence from those regions not to wait for their leaders to go to the grassroots to plead with them to take IDs or register as voters.

Speaking at Mutumbu in Gem sub-county at a burial of Joan Argwings Kodhek, the late Argwings Kodhek’s wife, Raila regretted that as per the recently released report, other regions have registered high number of voters in the ongoing exercise.

Raila said that Cord requires numbers for it to be able to rise to top leadership of this country adding that it can only be realised once people from the party strong holds register for IDs and obtain voter cards. He however, pointed out that the IDs are not only used for voting process, but is an important document that every Kenyan adult is expected to have.

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo who said that it is unfortunately that it is not only youths who have not registered for IDs but also the elderly also emphasised on the ID registration.

Midiwo claimed that most regions in Nyanza were lagging behind in terms of development adding that they have been sidelined by the governments for being in the opposition.

He therefore said that now that counties have the power to develop, it is important for counties to have leaders who can spear head development and this can be possible through elections.

The burial was attended by the Siaya county MPs Dr. Christine Ombaka, Bondo MP Dr. Gedion Ochanda, nominated MP Dr. Oburu Oginga among other guests.
