The Cord coalition has filed an application in Court, seeking to bar President Uhuru Kenyatta from assenting to the contentious Election Laws 2016, that both National and Senate Assemblies passed without amendments.
Through senior counsel Siaya senator James Orengo, Cord argued that the sessions and the process in which the laws were passed did not follow the required Constitutional procedures, therefore the laws were unconstitutional.
Cord and some other Opposition parties are opposed to the law. It allows use of manual backup system for voter identification, timeliness for the acquisition of election systems, and results transmission in the upcoming August 8, general polls.
This even as Cord called for a convention of all aspirants interested in various elective seats through Cord-affiliate parties, at the Bomas of Kenya Wednesday January 11, to chart way forward over the Election Laws.
