Cord risks losing a majority of the Luhya votes if their leader Raila Odinga fails to ensure that he handles Senate minority leader Moses Wetangula well.
According to a Jomo Kenyatta University, Kisii branch Lecturer Dr John Otieno, the recent crowning on Musalia Mudavadi by the Luhya community may tempt Wetangula to take another path where he will be fully recognised and that will result in a big crack in the CORD which is currently giving Jubilee sleepless nights.
In an interview with this writer in his office on Thursday Otieno said that he expects Raila to play his cards well so that he can avoid losing any of his close allies who are likely to weaken the coalition.
“We are all sure that Wetangula is not comfortable with the coming of Musalia to CORD or the awaited NASA and that may tempt him to look for greener pastures,” he added.
The analyst, however, said that CORD coalition or the newly formed NASA stands a chance to win if they unite and stop having self-interest.
This comes barely a week after Musalia Mudavadi was crowned the Luhya’s ‘spokesperson’ however that was not received well by a section of the leaders from the region.
