Cord has laughed off the senate vote on election laws and said the whole process was rigged.

The opposition outfit has instead summoned over 10,000 aspirants from the opposition to come together and deliberate on their next move.

The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill was on Thursday passed after an emotional debate in the Senate.

Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula have criticised Senate speaker Ekwee Ethuro for overseeing what they said was an illegal manipulation of the constitution.

“What happened in the Senate was outright rigging and this is what we must ultimately stop despite the Jubilee government’s efforts to facilitate it,” Mr Musyoka said.

According to the duo, the speaker's decision to authorise nominated senator Hosea Ochwangi to cast his vote on behalf of absent Senator Chris Obure was fraud since the latter had authorised only nominated senator Janet Ongera to vote on his behalf.

On Wednesday next week, the leaders are expected to meet at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi to deliberate on the way forward and are likely decide on mass action including how it will be run across the country.
