The leaders arrived at Pangani police station at 11am and three hours later had not seen the lawmakers under arrest over incitement remarks.

Supporters of the coalition crowded the station entrance from 10am chanting slogans demanding permission to see the arrested MPs and subsequent release.

Police lobbed teargas canisters at the rowdy supporters who were getting out of control to disperse them from the station's environs.

The leaders are yet to comment on the way forward after their efforts to visit their colleagues remained fruitless for several hours.

The police only allowed the spouses of the arrested legislators to meet the detainees.

They were however, not allowed to give them clothing and foodstuffs.

Sources at the Pangani police station indicated that the detained MPs, among them Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, rufused to take meals served by the police.
