On Monday, five Jubilee MPs filed contempt of court charges against the Cord leaders accusing them of disobeying a court order on barring them from conducting chaotic protests.

The MPs Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika) Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu) and Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) want the court to charge the Cord chiefs with contempt of court.

The MPS, through their lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, told Justice Joseph Onguto that Cord leaders and supporters had disobeyed a court order barring them from conducting chaotic protests.

The lawmakers said that Cord’s move to contravene court order amounts to contempt of court.

The five Jubilee legislators also want the cord leaders charged for conducting chaotic protests leading to destruction of property.

The MPs told the court that last Monday’s protests in Nairobi were chaotic resulting to destruction and looting of property.

Judge Onguto ordered that Siaya senator James Orengo representing Cord in an earlier case to appear in court on Thursday.

The five Jubilee MPs had early last month moved to court seeking to stop Cord anti-IEBC protests.

The MPs had also asked the court to charge Cord leaders with treason accusing them of forcefully trying to evict IEBC commissioners from officer.

In his ruling, High court Judge Isaack Lenaola had said that Cord’s protests were legal but warned them against violence and chaos.

Cord has maintained that it will go on with its weekly anti-IEBC protests.

Cord leaders yesterday told Jubilee government to prepare for the ‘mother’ of all protests on Monday next week.
