The planned Cord prayer rally that failed to take place yesterday in Machakos County has now been pushed to next Sunday.
According to Machakos senator Johnston Muthama yesterday, the prayer rally was postponed to allow lawmakers who were locked up in cells for four days over increment allegations to rest.
Muthama on Sunday said that the prayer meeting will be held in Machakos next week Sunday.
“We had to cancel the rally to allow the MPs who had been locked up get enough rest,” he said.
Cord had called for the rally to pray for the leaders who had been arrested and detained over alleged hate speech.
The eight leaders five from Cord and three from Jubilee were arrested and arraigned in court and detained on Tuesday last week over incitement allegations.
The eight MPs were however granted bail on Friday and released pending hearing of their respective cases.
The Machakos prayer rally was expected to be attended by Cord top leaders.
Prior to the planned meeting, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua had warned Cord against engaging in hate speech.
Mutua had stated that CCTV cameras had been installed across Machakos town to net individuals and leaders who were to engage in violence.
