Three people died during the demonstrations across the country while 19 were arrested.

Siaya County Referral Hospital clinical officer Silas Oluoch said Churchill Odhiambo was shot in the chest while Austine Juma was shot in the head.

In Kisumu, one person died after succumbing to injuries during the demos.

Aga Khan Hospital Doctor Sam Oula said the man was hit by a blunt object on the head.

“We suspect that he might have banged his head on the ground while escaping the police,” Dr Oula told the Nation.

In Homa Bay, police shot and injured four women who were admitted at the county’s referral hospital.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was arrested by police as he led anti-IEBC demos in the Western town. He was arraigned in court and later released on a Sh100,000 bond.

At the Coast, Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Thadius Rajwayi, Junda ward representative Paul Onje and more than 15 people were arrested as the city witnessed its first anti-IEBC protests.

Police repulsed protesters using tear gas in Nairobi as they tried to head to Anniversary Towers, which hosts the IEBC.

A police vehicle sprayed water to a convoy of vehicles carrying Cord leaders and their supporters as they protested against the IEBC on University Way in Nairobi

Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the shooting of the demonstrators, saying those who perpetrated the acts must be brought to justice.

“I condemn in the strongest terms possible, the horrendous actions of the police during the demonstrations...innocent Kenyans have been shot by the police and those who did that must be severely punished,” Odinga said during an evening press conference at Capitol Hill in Nairobi.

Cord leaders want IEBC commissioners out of office before the 2017 general election.

They are accusing the polls body of plotting to rig the election in favour of the ruling Jubilee coalition.

IEBC commissioners have however said they are not guilty of the accusations, maintaining they will only leave office if ejected through constitutional means.

The government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the opposition chiefs to use Parliament to remove the commissioners, saying protests will not address their concerns.
