An opposition MP who was among legislators arrested on June 14, over hate speech has offered to renovate a police station cell where she was detained.
Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa said on Sunday the condition at the cell she was held together with a colleague were deplorable.
In her letter published in one of the local dailies, Ms Jumwa said: "The Muthaiga Police Station cell I was kept was deplorable and unfit for human use."
"The floor is bad. Though there was water and we could clean ourselves, no human being should be subjected to such treatment."
Jumwa was among Cord MPs dramatically arrested on June 14, after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on Monday (June 13) ordered for their arrest and prosecution.
They were arrested over hate speech and incitement to violence.
Other opposition MPs arrested included Jumwa's Busia counterpart, Florence Mutua, Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Junet Mohamed (Suna East) and Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama.
They were arrested after they declined to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations along Kiambu Road to record statements.
Jubilee MPs Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) survived the dawn drama as they voluntarily appeared at the DCI.
"I will go back to Muthaiga and pay for the refurbishment of the floor of the cell where I spent three days so that the next ‘guests’ can stay in a dignified place," Jumwa said.
"The situation was inhumane. We were not allowed to change our clothes."
Jumwa and Mutua were detained at Muthaiga police station as the other MPs spent nights at Milimani and Muthangari police stations.
Legally, it is the responsibility of government to build and refurbish police stations.
There are instances however, when a member or members of the public or organisation(s) can volunteer to fund the refurbishment of such establishments.
In August 2015 for instance renown Pastor James Ng'ang'a of Neno Evangelism Centre offered Sh3.5 million for the renovation of Gigiri Police Station where he spent two night after being arrested.
