An MP from the Luo community has told Governor Hassan Joho that campaigning for Cord principal Raila Odinga will not guarantee him re-election as Mombasa governor.
Speaking at Maweni Secondary School, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti said the Luo community in Mombasa will not vote for Joho, since he has not accomplished what he promised in 2013.
“The governor promised displaced mechanics at Majengo a place to carry out their businesses nearly a year ago, but he is yet to fulfil his promise.”
“How can he purport to be a friend to Raila and campaign for him yet he does not care about members of his (Raila’s) community in Mombasa? I am telling Joho to forget the Luo vote in this county,” said Awiti, as quoted by the Nation.
Awiti claimed that Joho had failed the Luo community, adding that no amount of persuasion will change their mind.
“These are the very people the governor is trying to sweet talk to vote him back. Let him know that no amount of persuasion and hanging on the coat of Mr Odinga will guarantee him votes because he has wasted the chances that the people of Mombasa gave him in 2013,” he said.
The Nyali MP has indicated that he will challenge Joho for the gubernatorial seat.
