The Cord coalition is set for closed door meeting today (Friday) to chart the way forward after the Senate Assembly passed the contentious Election Law (Amendment) Bill 2016, without any amendments.
In a seating that ended close to Thursday midnight, Jubilee senators rallied for the bill and ensured it was passed, paving way for President Uhuru Kenyatta to assent it into law.
Spirited efforts by the Opposition senators led by Minority Leader Moses Wetangula, James Orengo and Prof Anyang' Nyong'o to quash the bill, bore no fruits.
Cord had called for countrywide mass protests after the National Assembly passed the Bill, starting January 4.
It however suspended the protests to allow the Senate to amend the Bill before announcing its next move.
Friday's meeting will be led by leader Raila Odinga. Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula will as well attend the meeting.
Other Opposition leaders; Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Baringo senator Gideon Moi (Kanu), Bomet governor Isaac Ruto (CCM) among others, are also opposed to the Bill.
It provides room for the use of a manual backup system in the August polls, which Cord is against.
