Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has announced that they would begin a fresh round of mass protests from January 4 following the move by Jubilee MPs to amend the Election Laws.
Addressing the press at Capitol Hill on Thursday, Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said Jubilee has until then to change their mind and seek a resolution to the impasse, saying the opposition should not be blamed for the eventualities from the protests.
Kalonzo faulted National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale for apparent intimidation of Justice George Odunga, saying his utterances that he would file a motion next January to have him removed from the bench, is discourtesy.
Cord principal Raila Odinga faulted Jubilee MPs for approving the amendments to the Election Law to allow for manual identification of voters and transmission of results, saying their move is aimed at facilitating rigging.
“The move to amend the law is to slot in the dead in the registers in order to allow them to vote for Jubilee in the elections. This shows they want to forcefully remain in power and I feel that this is a plot by Deputy President William Ruto. He should know that Kenya does not belong to him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, but the citizens," said Raila.
The Cord leader said the protests are a constitutional way to ensure democracy takes front row in Kenya.
“Our stand is that if there are no electoral reforms then we will not have the elections,” he added.
Raila further said that Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat are also in support of the protests.
