According to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Director of Communications Philip Etale, there are no plans for parallel celebrations.

“Cord will not hold any parallel Mashujaa Day celebrations as being claimed in some media,” he said on his Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Cord management committee co-chairs James Orengo, Johnson Muthama and Eseli Simiyu also said that they are not aware of any planned parallel celebrations.

“We are not aware of any planned parallel celebrations,” Orengo told journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Thursday lead this year’s celebrations in Machakos town and preparations for the national fete are already complete according to Machakos governor Alfred Mutua.

In June this year, Cord held parallel Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Park in Nairobi while President Uhuru led the celebrations at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
