On Wednesday, Cord leaders refuted the claims terming them as baseless.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi on Wednesday, Machakos senator Johnson Muthama termed the claims as mere propaganda.

Muthama stated that they are only interested in making sure that IEBC commissioners are sent home.

“Its ridiculous for some people to start claiming that we are planning to overturn the government, our only concern is IEBC and we have made it clear,” said Muthama as quoted by the People Daily Newspaper on Wednesday.

Muthama maintained that they will not take the issue of IEBC to parliament.

He said that the only way Jubilee will heed to their concerns is through protests.

Siaya senator James Orengo said that Cord’s protests have been peaceful adding that police are to blame for making them chaotic.

“We plan for peaceful protests only for police to trigger chaos,” said Orengo.

Orengo said that Cord had decided to halt the weekly anti-IEBC protests to give room for dialogue.

He said that they have given the Jubilee government five days to honour to dialogue over the IEBC stalemate failure to which they will resume protests.

Cord is pushing to have the IEBC disbanded accusing the commissioners of being influenced by external factors.

However, the opposition move to use protests has been condemned by Jubilee leaders saying that the opposition must use the constitutional mechanism provide for in the constitution.
