Khalwalwe has accused Karua of being insincere in her move to back Uhuru.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Citizen on Friday, Khalwale accused Karua of being led by selfish interests in her bid and decision to back Uhuru’s re-election.

The Kakamega senator said that Karua’s move is selfishly motivated, adding that she had nothing to offer the opposition party.

“I think she has made her mind but I can guarantee that her decision is selfishly motivated, in real sense Karua had no votes to add to us (the opposition) what we need is her political experience and vigorous approach on issues,” he said.

The senator went on to add that Karua is seeking Uhuru’s endorsement for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.

“She knows that without Uhuru’s approval she will not get the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat and that is why she decided to back the President,” he claimed.

On Thursday Karua announced her decision to back Uhuru’s re-election in 2017, saying the Kirinyaga people want Uhuru for another and term and she has to respect that by backing his bid.

The former Gichugu MP also announced that she will be contesting for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat next year on Narc Kenya ticket, further adding that as much as she is backing Uhuru’s re-election, her party will field candidates for other positions but not the presidency.

Karua’s move to support Uhuru has been seen as a setback to the opposition led by Raila Odinga, who have been courting Karua for a possible formation of a national alliance.

In the recent past, Karua had been spotted in events organized by the opposition and has been questioning the Jubilee government on several issues among them corruption.
