Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale wants Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet grilled over the National Youth Service (NYS) scam.
In the scam, the taxpayer allegedly lost Sh1.6 billion where the two have been adversely mentioned in the ongoing investigations.
Khalwale says the two have to be grilled over their alleged involvement.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, the senator said that anyone who has been linked to the scandal has to shed light of what he or she knows.
“Senator Murkomen and Kibet should be grilled by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) and other investigative agencies to shed light on what they know in regards to the lost millions at NYS.”
The senator accused the Deputy President of protecting Kibet against the NYS scandal.
“The DP should have a long time ago ordered his aide Farouk Kibet to appear before investigating agencies but he has not done so” he alleged.
Khalwale further said that DP Ruto’s silence on the mention of his aide in the NYS scam is suspicious.
“Let everyone who has been mentioned take responsibility and record statements” he said.
Murkomen and Kibet were mentioned and linked by former CS Anne Waiguru who claimed that Murkomen was in constant telephone conversations with Ben Gethi who is one of the key suspects in the scam.
The Marakwet senator has defended himself against claims that he benefited from the NYS loot.
He accuses former CS Waiguru of dragging his name into the scam saying Waiguru should carry her own cross.
On Wednesday, Suba MP John Mbadi wrote to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) chair Nicholas Gumbo saying that Murkomen and Kibet should appear before the committee for grilling.
Mbadi said the two might give crucial information that could expose more in regards to the scam.
