Elections in a democratic state like Kenya are won through the ballot.
For one to cast a vote in the ballot box, one must register as a voter.
For one to register as a voter, one is required to have the national identification card.
Simply put, the number of identification cards roughly translate to the number of votes. Members of parliament and other legislators from central area seem to have grasped this concept and that is why they are on a massive ID acquisition drive.
They have vowed to have the remaining 1.2 million people who do not have ID cards to acquire them by April 30.
They have opted to act rather than talk.
Cord members of parliament should also hit the road back to their constituencies and urge their people to collect their ID cards instead of blaming the national registration bureau of biases.
Cord co-principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang'ula should spearhead the drive to get more people collect their ID cards in Cord strongholds.
