Opposition Cord has underscored the need to reform the electoral structure of the country.
Cord said it will begin an unprecedented push for justice for the 2007/2008 post-election violence victims and electoral reforms.
Senators James Orengo (Siaya), Johnstone Muthama (Machakos) and Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu Thursday said the only way to end the cycle of violence that comes with every election is by reforming the IEBC.
“We need justice for the victims of the 2007-2008 election violence. We also need thorough reforms to our electoral infrastructure. That is the only way to end the cycle of violence that comes with every election,” the leaders said.
They said Cord will hold a rally on Saturday at Laini Saba Grounds, Kibra in Nairobi.
They said the rally will mark a fresh start of their push for reforms in the country.
Cord said any talk of reconciliation between communities will remain a hoax as long as the electoral systems that produce only discord with every election are not addressed.
