Cord leader Raila Odinga has announced plans to hold anti-IEBC protests in Nairobi on Madaraka Day.
Speaking to the press outside Cord’s offices at Capitol Hill after Monday’s protests, Raila said Cord will not relent in their push to force IEBC commissioners out of office.
He accused police of targeting innocent individuals during the protests saying the man who was shot dead in Kisumu on Monday and the one roughed up in Nairobi last week were not involved in the demonstrations.
He asked Cord supporters to condemn the use of force by police officers during the protests.
"We have held peaceful demonstrations today (Monday) and it is unfortunate that due to police action, some people have been injured while others lost their lives,” he said.
Raila accused the police of being incompetent, blaming them for business disruption and causing the protests to take a whole day instead of the two hours planned.
This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations are to be held in Nakuru as the country seeks to strengthen the devolved system of governance.
