Kisumu County ODM office has organised a prayer rally for three protesters who died during the anti-IEBC protests in Kisumu and Siaya.
County party chairman Prof Ayiecho Olweny said the prayers will also cater for those who were injured, some of whom are still recuperating at various hospitals.
Prof Ayiecho said close to 100 people are nursing various injuries including gunshot wounds following the last protest before it was suspended.
“Our people who were peacefully marching along the streets to push IEBC commissioners out were injured some shot dead by the police. As a party we must come together and pray,” he said.
Addressing a press conference in Kisumu on Tuesday, the former Muhoroni MP said they have notified the police over the prayer rally slated for this Thursday.
Nyakach MP Adumma Owuor who attended the press conference said the names of those who died during the protests will remain in the liberation books.
Mr Owuor said the interdenominational prayers will bring all the clergy in Nyanza region to pray for the souls of the departed people and for quick recovery of the injured.
He noted that the Cord luminaries led by Raila Odinga will be present in the prayer rally to be staged at Kirembe grounds in the outskirts of Kisumu city.
Politician Dr Hezron Makobewa who was also present noted that plans are finalised ahead of the prayer rally.
Makobewa said Kenyans want a fair referee as the country goes to the next polls in 2017.
“The people have spoken and IEB should see the writings on the wall. Let them vacate office,” he said.
